OEUK Offshore Medicals
All offshore medicals are conducted face-to-face by Dr Maarten Van Kets, an OEUK-registered examiner. Dr Van Kets has practiced medicine since 1991, of which over well 20 years in Occupational Medicine. Every offshore medical is conducted entirely by Dr Van Kets himself, either at one of his clinics at London Bridge (SE1 2PR) or Orpington (BR6 0FE) — or on-site for 7+ workers.
On-site visits: Dr Van Kets comes to your rig, platform, or base for groups of 7+.
Why Are OEUK Medicals Necessary?
Offshore work is remote and high-risk. Per OEUK Medical Guidelines Issue 8 (October 2025), a fitness certificate is required for UKCS and international offshore work.
What Do OEUK Medicals Include?
- BMI, blood pressure, urinalysis
- Hearing & vision screening
- Emergency response capability
- Chester Step Test (CST) – for physically demanding roles (e.g., ERT, wind turbine technicians)
- OEUK fitness certificate (paper document, signed by doctor)
Who Needs It & How Often?
- All offshore personnel: Rig workers, platform staff, ERT, windfarm technicians
- Frequency: Every 2 years (standard); CST certificate valid 12 months
- Employers fund; self-employed arrange own
